In my latest update on what’s going on with my orchids, I mentioned that one of the Phals I’m growing at my fiancé’s office is in spike. I had accidentally deleted the photo of it from my phone, so I took another pic yesterday—and it’s growing like a weed! It’s funny how much faster these things seem to grow when you don’t see them day in and day out.
Orchids in Jamaica, An Oncidium in Spike, and Other Developments
Well, look at that…it’s been about two months since I last updated my blog. Sorry about that, folks! I’ve been hard at work on another project that I will hopefully be able to share with you soon. During this unplanned blog hiatus, [BIG ANNOUCEMENT!] I got engaged, then went to Jamaica for what had become an engagement celebration vacation with my boyfriend fiancé. We stayed at The Jewel Dunn’s River in Ocho Rios, an all-inclusive resort, and we had a really amazing time. On our second day there I noticed a beautiful orchid in bloom attached to the trunk of a palm tree on the resort grounds, and once I saw that one I started seeing them everywhere!
Phalaenopsis Blooming Season is in Full Swing!
This is why I grow orchids: I currently have five in bloom—four Phalaenopsis and (FINALLY) my Oncidium Twinkle Fragrance Fantasy! It’s such a great feeling to see those buds swell and burst open with gorgeous flowers. Two of the Phals in bloom are ones that I previously mentioned, the mama and baby. Here’s a pic of the mama in full bloom (apologies for the poor lighting):
Sunday Night Orchid Surprise
My boyfriend made a shopping trip to Trader Joe’s on Sunday night and returned with a beautiful surprise for me!*
Mid-November Update on My Orchid Collection
I have some new developments to write about since my last post about the nice surprise I woke up to almost a month ago. Since then, all of the buds on that Oncidium have opened up, and the plant has a lovely spray of lightly fragranced blooms:
A Nice Little Morning Surprise
Just a quick little update….Look what I woke up to this morning:
This is the Oncidium that spiked awhile back and I’ve been waiting patiently for the blooms to open. They’re finally starting to wake up! It’s moments like these that make orchid growing 110% worth it. Once all of the blooms have opened I’ll post another pic. 🙂
