Orchids in Jamaica, An Oncidium in Spike, and Other Developments

Well, look at that…it’s been about two months since I last updated my blog. Sorry about that, folks! I’ve been hard at work on another project that I will hopefully be able to share with you soon. During this unplanned blog hiatus, [BIG ANNOUCEMENT!] I got engaged, then went to Jamaica for what had become an engagement celebration vacation with my boyfriend fiancé. Phalaenopsis Blooming Season is in Full Swing!

This is why I grow orchids: I currently have five in bloom—four Phalaenopsis and (FINALLY) my Oncidium Twinkle Fragrance Fantasy! It’s such a great feeling to see those buds swell and burst open with gorgeous flowers. Two of the Phals in bloom are ones that I previously mentioned, the mama and baby. Here’s a pic of the mama in full bloom (apologies for the poor lighting):

A Nice Little Morning Surprise

Just a quick little update….Look what I woke up to this morning:

Oncidium bloom!

This is the Oncidium that spiked awhile back and I’ve been waiting patiently for the blooms to open. They’re finally starting to wake up! It’s moments like these that make orchid growing 110% worth it. Once all of the blooms have opened I’ll post another pic. 🙂
