The calendar features 12 months’ worth of original orchid photographs taken by yours truly.

Because today is Black Friday it’s a great time to buy: Zazzle has a promo code that gives you 40% off calendars! My calendar is regularly priced at $27.15, but today only you can get it for $16.29. All you need to do is enter the promo code BLACKFRISAVE at checkout. It’s the perfect opportunity to pick up a Brooklyn Orchids calendar for yourself or for the orchid fanatic in your life! Thank you in advance for all of your support, and I hope you enjoy your holiday weekend!

A Few Updates: New Zazzle Products, Makeover Coming Soon, and Underwatered Orchids

Lots of things going on around here! I love lists, so I present you this post in a list format.

  1. New products in the Brooklyn Orchids Online Store: It’s been way too long since I last updated the products in my store, and I finally have some fun new things for sale—all using my original photographs. I’ve added all kinds of items like thank you cards (my personal favorite is this toothy-grinned Dendrobium, luggage tags (inspired by my upcoming belated honeymoon to Italy*!!), and even some random stuff like nail wraps (NAIL ART YESSSS), a cosmetic bag, and a throw pillow. The coupon code BACK2SCHOOL2 gets you 15% off all products (the deal ends tomorrow, August 20th, at midnight PT). If there are any of my orchid photos that you’d like to see on a particular type of product, let me know in the comments and I can whip one up for you!
  2. Makeover is coming: I’ll admit that I’m the last person to embrace change, but my blog has had the same look for way too long and I’ve decided it’s time for a little spiffing up. Because I’ll be traveling to Italia soonish, I may not get around the all the changes until after I return, but for now just know that you will hit a completely different-looking Brooklyn Orchids at some point in the future. ETA TBD.
  3. Pour one out for the dearly departed: I’m not referring to the disappeared people from The Leftovers. Today, I made the decision to send two terribly ailing orchids to the Great Orchid Farm in the Sky (aka my compost bin). One was the Phalaenopsis that my husband and I received from his parents in an arrangement for our engagement party last year (I hate admitting that I killed that one!) and the other was a Better-Gro Cattleya from Lowe’s that has fared quite poorly lately. I should probably not buy Better-Gro orchids anymore because most of them have died on me, although I do still have three that are doing pretty well—they just haven’t bloomed yet.
  4. In case you were wondering what an underwatered Oncidium orchid looks like, let me show you:

‘Tis the Season to Buy Brooklyn Orchids Zazzle Gifts!

I always feel a little silly writing shameless self-promotion posts like this, but it must be done.  🙂  Now that it’s December—seriously, where the hell did 2011 go??—I’ve created some new products that you can buy as holiday gifts from my Brooklyn Orchids Zazzle store for the orchid nerd in your life (or for your very own orchid nerd self).

Some of the newest items you can buy are:

Brooklyn Orchids 2012 Orchid Calendar

Bulbophyllum Orchid iPad Case

Botanicals Calendar 2012

Reusable Orchid Tote Bag

Phalaenopsis iPhone Case

FYI, every product in my store is created with my own original photography. There are plenty of other fun orchid (and non-orchid) products in my store including postage stamps, coasters, mugs, and more. Please spread the word—these are honestly unique holiday gifts for orchid and plant lovers alike! Thanks in advance for all of your support from me, your friendly neighborhood Zazzle ProSeller!

Edited to add: If you would like to see a specific orchid photo of mine on a particular item, please don’t hesitate to leave a comment. I’d be more than happy to create a product for you!

Shameless Self-Promotion for My Zazzle Store!

My Zazzle best-seller

You may have already discovered this by browsing my blog, but I have a Zazzle store called Sarah’s Botanical Shop where you can buy all sorts of goodies with my original photography printed on them. Most of the products use photos of orchids (duh!) but I also offer some items with general nature photography that I’ve taken at various botanical gardens over the past year.

One of my best-selling items is this pink & green Cymbidium orchid postage stamp that you see to the right. I’ve sold several copies of this stamp just this week!

My store offers tons of stamps, plus fun things like mousepads, notecards, mugs, calendars, and even baby onesies and doggie tee-shirts.

Zazzle is offering a discount TODAY ONLY—10.40% off all orders. The discount code to use is TAXDAYZAZZLE, which will be applied during the checkout process. So please, feel free to shop away in my store—especially today. Hint: there are lots of great items for Mother’s Day gifts!   🙂
