It’s hard to process yesterday’s sickening insurrection on the U.S. Capitol Building by domestic terrorists. I’m here to state some of my own thoughts about yesterday’s disgusting events. If you don’t like it, you’re more than welcome to find another orchid blog to follow.
12 Months of Orchid Photos
It’s Thanksgiving week, so you know what that means: ALLLL the Black Friday sales. With the pandemic still going on, retailers started Black Friday early. My own 2021 calendar is now ready for purchase from my Zazzle shop! As always, the 12-month calendar features original orchid photography by yours truly.
Fall Time is Spike Time
I know it’s been a very long time since I last posted here. Might as well begin all of my blog posts that way. 😛 I tend to post on Instagram more often because it’s quick and easy. Anyway, five of my orchids have begun to spike, and I wanted to share photos of them!
First is the Phalaenopsis tetraspis var. alba x sib that I ordered from Orchids by Hausermann using my birthday gift certificate:
Orchid Gifts for the Greenhouse
My birthday was last month, and my husband surprised me with a gift card for Orchids by Hausermann! I’ve ordered orchids from them in the past, but it’s been many years since I’ve done so. Now that we have the greenhouse, it’s a good time to try some new orchids!
I actually ordered NINE new orchids in all…here are some of them:
I wrote this post on my personal blog the other day, and I wanted to share it here as well.
Our country is in a massive state of upheaval right now. First and foremost I want to say that my heart goes out to the families and loved ones of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and the way-too-many other victims of racial violence. These senseless killings are sickening, and they must stop. White supremacy and police violence have no place in our society, yet they persist because so many people (myself included) don’t speak out enough.
Enjoy the Beauty of Orchids at Home
Well, here we are. It’s a weird time globally, with the COVID-19 pandemic having taken over our usual routines. I hope you’re staying home, washing your hands a lot, and following whatever guidelines your city, state, or country have set in place. If you’re in the US and aren’t sure where to find reliable information about the virus, please visit CDC.gov.
During a panic grocery shopping trip, my husband found a gorgeous Zygopetalum hybrid that needed a good home. So it’s ours now, and I absolutely love it! The blooms are stunning, and they smell incredible.
